Amazing!! I'm from Australia and Sleep School is a popular thing to do there if you're struggling with your baby's sleep. You check in for a few days and they work with you to help fix your sleep problems. Now that we live in California I couldn't find anything similar to help with my 11 month old's sleep issues, and was too scared to try any sort of sleep training method alone (I'm a big softie and would have caved). I was considering getting someone to come out to my home for hundreds of dollars. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this lecture series. It helped me realize that I did need to give my baby time and space to learn to sleep on her own. That I couldn't keep doing all the work for her. My son just turned a year old and my husband and I have never done any type of sleep training. I always nursed him to sleep and/or rocked him. Amazing! This course gave me the confidence to get the job done. It took us four nights and we have all been getting a great nights sleep ever since. Just wanted to send a big, giant, HUGE thank you!!! My daughter is 10 months old and has only ever been nursed to sleep for all naps and bedtime..she was swaddled up until 5 months and breaking that was not bad at all... she had gone through bouts of sleeping through the night, waking once, waking several times, back and forth for months at a time each. well recently she was waking up several times a night....I had to nurse her back to sleep every time. Also, my husband has NEVER been able to put her down or get up with her in the middle of the night because she would freak with him and want the boob. I started the sleep easy solutions method last weds and WOW! night one wasn't bad at all, just did one 7 min check in (she's stubborn, five mins would have been too soon)...after that no more checkins since she didn't cry "cry" just the on and off or whimpering/whining. I goofed the dream feeding (I forgot to do it every other night so I am doing it now every night til weds) I missed my alarm one night and the next I didn't hear it and those nights she woke up at 4 am but I let her whine/cry and she fell back to sleep within 15 mins... I hope I can effectively wean down that one night time waking we'll see.... ANYWAY...just wanted to say a million thank you'd...the method works BEAUTIFULLY!!! I have recommended this to friends and three others bought the video courses and have started sleep training too. THANKS!!!! she goes down without a peep now other than talking to herself! yes!!! I'm so so happy with the gentle approach it takes and the comfort it has further built between my daughter and her father..she snuggles with him now at bed time and lets him give her the bottle...it really is the best!!
This course is fantastic! The information is framed in a way that helped me put things into perspective - "This isn't your new parenting style. It is just a short-term solution to a long-term problem." My son responded VERY well within the first 2 nights, which was as much a surprise to us as it was to him! We are now working on naps, which have proven to be more challenging, but we have the confidence that he will figure it out since sleep is a skill he has already been practicing! Just wanted to let you know how thankful I am for your site and courses. My little one was a great sleeper until we starting teething at 8months and from then until 11 months he was up 3-4 times per night. In addition we had a bedtime routine that was not helpful, he was nursed to sleep and then placed gently into bed already asleep for me to make my escape! I watched your sleep solutions video and put it into motion November 2nd, 2013 (he was over a year old) and by November 5th, he was sleeping 10-11hours nonstop!!! The first night was 12min of crying (which seemed like forever but I made notes and stood in the kitchen painfully watching the clock), night two was 7 min and by night 3 he was down within 3min!!!!! He now knows the routine and goes down without any issues but more importantly sleeps until WE WAKE HIM UP! Thanks a million.
Last night I started the sleep training with my 12 month old. I was pretty certain my super stubborn little girl would take longer than average to catch on. Tonight, as her second night it only took her 10 minutes of whining (not crying!) to fall asleep! I tried "crying it out" once before with her but wasn't prepared and found myself getting frustrated with her not falling asleep. This time I was so much more relaxed and helpful to her because I knew exactly what to expect and how to handle each scenerio. I wanted to say Thank You for putting together such a great program!
We're now going to talk about the Sleep Solution Number 4. This is probably the biggest of all of them. They're all important, but this is the biggest. Associations, sleep associations that children have are the most common problem that we have as we're addressing sleep issues. Associations might mean that a baby needs to be bounced to sleep like this for half an hour before they go to sleep. It needs motion. It might mean the passy goes in, but it keeps coming out, and you keep running like a slave all night long putting it back in. I was there. I know it. It might be nursing or giving a bottle all the way until sleep, holding them, waiting until they're in a deep sleep, putting them down and praying, "Don't wake up!" Then they wake up. They're like, "Wait a minute. I caught you." There are a lot of different associations. Some people in our practice have these purple, fluffy bath mats that became an association for a slightly older child. We've had dads driving around at two o'clock in the morning for the motion, watching fish through the fish tank. Lots of things. You all know what your associations are. Basically, when a child needs an external association, like they need somebody externally to them to help them put themselves to sleep or back to sleep in the middle of the night, when they can't get up themselves and they have to signal "Help!", we have a sleep problem. The main difference between a child that is a "good sleeper" and a child that's having trouble sleeping is often, mainly, that the good sleeper will go in and out of deep and light phases of sleep like all children do. Three to five times a night they come up to a partial waking. The good sleeper will come up to a partial waking and go, "Oh, yeah, I'm in the same environment. Oh, there's my blankie. Goodnight," and they put themselves back to sleep. That's the good sleeper. The child who's having difficulty with sleep will go into a light phase of sleep at night and go like this, and go, "Uh oh, emergency!" (siren sound in background) We'll use the sound effects in the background. "Help! Fire! Fire!" They'll call. They'll signal for that parent or that caregiver to come back in and replicate the conditions upon which they fell asleep. If they were bounced to sleep like this, and you snuck them in their crib, ultimately later they're waking up and they're going, "Wait a minute. Where's my mommy? I'm not moving any more. I have no idea how to put myself to sleep. Help! I'm helpless." A huge focus in our program is going to be giving your children the opportunity to learn how to independently put themselves to sleep at bedtime and every time they go into lighter phases of sleep at night, put themselves back to sleep a hundred percent of the time.
